Project overview
PharmaCompare is a price comparison platform that shows the total cost of prescription treatments across registered UK online pharmacies. It discovers pharmacies from public registers, verifies each one against its regulator registration, and collects prices directly from pharmacy websites on a schedule. Prices are normalized to include delivery and consultation fees, so visitors compare what they will pay at checkout. Staff manage the directory, catalogue, evidence reviews and editorial content from an admin dashboard with a full audit log.

The challenge
The Transparency & Data Freshness Gap in Online Pharmacy Pricing
Comparing online pharmacy prices was unreliable because the real cost and the legitimacy of the seller were both hard to establish. Key challenges included:
Headline prices hid consultation, prescription and delivery fees, so pharmacies could not be compared like for like.
Thousands of register entries had to be narrowed to genuine online providers and matched to the right website.
Prices change often and every pharmacy site is structured differently, which makes keeping data current by hand impractical.
The solution
A Verified Directory With an Automated Price Pipeline
The platform pairs an automated data pipeline with staff review, so nothing is published without a check. Key features include:

Pulls candidates from regulator and public registers, then verifies registration and website ownership before a pharmacy moves through review to published.

Scheduled browser-automation jobs read prices from each pharmacy's site per product, strength and pack size, with a live scrape stream and manual override for staff.

Total-Cost Comparison & Tools
Normalizes medicine, consultation and delivery fees into one all-in price and price per tablet, with a pack-cost calculator for comparing pack sizes.
